It has been reported by the Japanese Skating Federation and sports.ru that Shoma Uno / 宇野 昌磨 has withdrawn from the World Team Trophy figure skating competition due to take place in Tokyo, Japan between 13 – 16th April 2023. He will be replaced by 19 year old Japanese skater Shun Sato / 佐藤 駿.
An ongoing ankle injury has prompted Shoma’s withdrawal from the competition, with Shoma himself stating “I tried my best to cope with the injury, but I couldn’t return to competitive level in time, so I decided to withdraw”.

Translation of Japanese Skating Federation tweet: “Shoma Uno will miss the ISU World Figure Skating Nationals 2023 due to injury. Shun Sato will participate as a substitute player. https://skatingjapan.or.jp/whatsnew/detail.php?id=185 #FigureSkating #フィギュアスケート“
Shun Sato, who finished 3rd at Four Continents in Colorado this year, will replace him in the Japanese national team. The team will be captained by Women’s Figure Skating World Champion Kaori Sakamoto.
While we’re disappointed that Shoma won’t be taking part, there are still lots of great skaters involved so it’s shaping up to be an entertaining competition.
Good luck everyone!
