Japanese Junior Pairs & Ice Dance teams split. ISU age rule related?

It’s a difficult time for Pairs figure skating and Ice Dance, with so many promising and talented teams splitting.

Another to announce their split are Japanese Junior Pairs skating team Haruna Murakami/Sumitada Moriguchi. The skaters confirmed that their difficult decision was, in part, influenced by the new age rule introduced by the ISU. We’re really starting to see some of the negative effects this well-intentioned rule may have on figure skating as a sport in the long-term.

Sadly, Japanese Junior Ice Dance team Nao Kida/Masaya Morita have also confirmed their split on Instagram.

We’d like to inform everyone who has supported KIDAMORI.
We have decided to dissolve our partnership with Masaya Morita!
Thanks to the Kinoshita Group Japan Skating Federation 🇯🇵 and all the coaches and fans who have supported Kidamori so far, we have been able to compete in the world!

Skate Japan News shared the news that Nao Kida posted on her Instagram account that the pair had split and the former team thanked the Japan Skating Federation and others for their support over the years.

Nao reiterated her continued love of figure skating, and thanked Masaya for helping her discover her passion for ice dance. Both say they will continue in the discipline and are seeking new ice dance partners.

We’ll keep you posted as we hear more!
