It’s looking increasingly likely that we’ll get to see Alena Kostornaia competing in Pairs figure skating for the 2023-24 season. According to a sports.ru article, her new partner, Georgy Kunitsa said “Training with Kosternaia is going well, next season we plan to go out [and compete]”.
Kostornaia and Kunitsa became a Pairs couple over the winter of 2022. “We did well in training so next season we plan to go out [and compete]. In June, we’ll go to the training camp in Sochi with our coach. It’s unlikely that we’ll perform in the off-season except for shows”.

Kostornaia shows natural ability for pairs skating. Olympic Silver medallist, Evgenia Medvedeva, noted that she wasn’t surprised that Kostornaia is hoping to make the transition to Pairs after seeing how good her triple throw was. And Kostornaia’s triple throw loop has continued to improve as we saw in a video shared Telegram on April 4th 2023.
If you’d like to see how this new pair is progressing, we’ve put together a short Youtube video of some recent training featuring: Triple Twist, Double Twist, Lift, Step Sequence And Throw 3 Loop.
Hope you enjoy the video! We’ll keep you updated on Kosternaia and Kunitsa’s progress as we discover more news.
